Gen over at PVRBlog pointed me to an excellent Slashdot thread that’s talking about building a homebrew digital video recorder on a budget, which is very timely for me.

In fact, I just updated my wiki with a rough spec for my own PVR. Now I need to refine and price out the equipment because I think I’m already over budget.

    steve - i can loan you an ABIT KT7 w/ Duron 700 (oc’s to 900 or 1Ghz), AGP GeForce 2MX w/ TV out, 10GB, 384MB if you want to borrow it to get started before you buy all the hardware - just add that Hauppage 350 card and you’re set…ed

    You don’t need huge processing power if you have a PVR 250/350. My box runs fine. Use the borrowed mboard, or get a lower powered one.
