Macromedia Contribute

Software January 21st, 2003

I spent a few minutes today runing throught the product tour of Macromedia’s new light-wieght CMS application Contribute and I have to say that for $99 it seems to be very powerful… I need to test out a demo before I believe the hype, but it certainly has peeked my interest.

Blog via SMS using Moblogger

Blogs January 20th, 2003

Moblogger: “This application runs as a background process that monitors a POP3 email account for new email, then downloads it, detaches any files such as pictures, sound or video, uses the Blogger API to post the text in the email to your blog and uses FTP to post the files to your server. Send the email from a phone and you immediately start “moblogging”. (via Ben)

However, it seems to me that Abe Fettig HEP Message server is moving in a similar direction, but not really focused on Moblogging.

The TrackBack Flavors

I’ve been scratching my head for the last few days trying to make sense of all the latest TrackBack derivatives, but thanks to Ben Hammersley I can finally put them all into perspective.

Wonderful job!

Cold Ride

Cycling January 18th, 2003

With the current North East cold spell, here’s something to put in perspective …

“Adventurer Doug Stoup is preparing to be the first person to cycle to the South Pole.”

“Stoup, a 37-year-old from sunny Florida, is currently in Antarctica testing a custom-built ice bicycle he hopes to use for a run at the pole next year.”

However, that’s a sweet ride!

YourMom.com has a new home

General January 17th, 2003

All right, I’ll admit it … I own the domain YourMom.com. I’ve had the domain and web site for a number of years. It’s a long story how I acquired the domain, but suffice it to say, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to own yourmom.com (ok, bad joke ;).

Anyway, your mom’s past hosting provider went belly up so she now has a new provider. However, I also used this move as an opportunity to port the site to a completely new code base and scripting language. It went a lot smoother than I expected thanks to the wonderful phpLinks, which is essentially a PHP/MySQL-based web link portal management application that I tweaked a bit to manage the hundreds of your mom jokes for the YM site.

Well, your mom (dot com) is again online and now in beta (as if you were wondering) … let me know if you find any problems.
